The DUDDLE was the sister ship of the FUDDLE. The phrase “bring in the fuddle duddle” was often mistaken for casual slang instead of a military maneuver The enemy would dismiss the phrase as a joke or an odd code, underestimating the significant threat of the two ships’ sonar-bouncing capabilities. The DUDDLE was paid off in 1949 and decomissioned the following year.
